IMPROVING CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ACCOUNTABILITY THROUGH 311
In August 2001, the City of Houston launched its 311 Houston Service Helpline, a consolidated call center designed to make city government more user-friendly, and responsive to city residents.

Houston's 311 provides city services at your fingertips anytime, day or night. Our 311 team is available 24 hours, 7 days a week to provide general information and create non-emergency requests for city services.

311 agents handle more than one million calls every year for everything from reporting water leaks, to filling potholes, to picking up missed t rash. 311 agents also create more than 200 types of Service Requests for specific city services such as pothole repairs or malfunctioning traffic signals. Each request is entered into the 311 Service Management System, where it is assigned to the appropriate department along with a deadline for resolution.
