City of Houston Issues Emergency Management Curfew

September 14, 2008 - Due to concerns about the safety of all Houstonians and the declared state of disaster as a result of Hurricane Ike, the City of Houston has issued a city wide curfew effective Sunday, September 14, 2008, beginning at 9 p.m. and ending at 6 a.m. daily, until further notice.

The purpose of this curfew is to protect the lives and property of all residents as law enforcement and other officials respond to emergencies and engage in recovery activities related to this disaster.

The curfew is not construed to infringe upon the lawful activity of Houstonians, such as commuting to and from work, etc. However, law enforcement officials will be proactively patrolling the city, and individuals who are outdoors during emergency curfew hours should expect to be questioned by officials.

Violations of the curfew are punishable by fines of up to $500.
