Changes in City of Houston Curfew September 16, 2008 - The City of Houston has revised its temporary citywide curfew in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. The curfew will now be in place from 12 midnight until 6 a.m. daily, effective this evening (Tuesday, Sept. 16) until Sunday (Sept. 21). The purpose of this curfew is to protect the lives and property of all residents as law enforcement and other officials respond to emergencies and engage in recovery activities related to this disaster. The curfew is not construed to infringe upon the lawful activity of Houstonians, such as commuting to and from work, etc. However, law enforcement officials will be proactively patrolling the city, and individuals who are outdoors during emergency curfew hours should expect to be questioned by officials. Violations of the curfew are punishable by fines of up to $500. VHS/BDW
