Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 5400 Bellfort
November 1, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic involving a Houston police officer at 5400 Bellfort about 8:30 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 30).
Marius Earl Warner, Jr. (b/m, DOB: 9-4-89) is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 182nd State District Court.
A 15-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Three other passengers, a female, 10, and two males, 16 and 31, were transported to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.
The HPD officer, K. W. Mahaney, assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division, was not injured. Officer Mahaney was sworn in as an officer in November 2009.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Wilson and Officer T. Riley reported:
Officer Mahaney was driving his marked patrol vehicle eastbound on Bellfort, operating without lights and siren, when the driver (Warner) of a silver Saturn station wagon ran a stop sign while northbound on Sandhurst, causing the patrol vehicle to strike the Saturn. Warner then fled on foot.
On Sunday (Oct. 31), Warner voluntarily turned himself in to police and admitted to being the driver of the Saturn at the time of the accident.
