Armed Suspect Fatally Shot at 3200 Telephone Road

February 24, 2016 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which an armed suspect was fatally shot by a Harris County Precinct 6 deputy constable at 3200 Telephone Road about 11:05 a.m. on Tuesday (February 23).

The male suspect, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The Harris County Precinct 6 deputy, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Holbrook and Senior Police Officer J. Roscoe reported:

Deputies with the Harris County Precinct 6 Constable's Office responded to a disturbance call at a bus terminal at the above address.  The deputies confronted a male suspect holding a machete who began swinging it at them.  The suspect was given verbal commands in English and Spanish to drop the weapon but he refused.  Deputies kept their distance and tried to communicate with the male for several minutes.

An HPD patrol officer responded to the scene and deployed his Conducted Energy Device (CED), which appeared to have no effect on the suspect.  The suspect then ran toward the HPD officer and struck him several times with the machete.  Fearing for the HPD officer's life, as well as his own safety, a Precinct 6 deputy discharged his duty weapon and struck the suspect, who was pronounced dead by HFD paramedics.  The HPD officer suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
