April 02, 2026 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed male suspect by HPD officers at 6300 West Bellfort Avenue about 11:20 a.m. on April 1.

The identity of the deceased male is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Officers I. Gonzalez, M. Jones and D. Schad who discharged their duty weapons, were not injured in the incident. The officers are assigned to the South Gessner Patrol Division. Officer Gonzalez was sworn in as an HPD officer in June 2002, Officer Jones in October 2021 and Officer Schad in January 2018.

HPD Homicide Division Special Investigations Unit Detectives K. Vu and M. Childs reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a call about a male in crisis at an apartment complex at the above address. Officers met with a female who stated her husband is armed with a knife, making suicidal threats along with threats to police officers inside their upstairs apartment.

When officers went upstairs and attempted to make contact with the male suspect, he stood by the apartment door armed with a knife. Officers issued multiple verbal commands for him to drop the knife. The male suspect, still armed with a knife, ignored those verbal commands and began to advance towards the officers. Officers discharged their weapon, striking the male. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
