Council Members Abbie Kamin and Mario Castillo hosted a 11th Street Safety Project Community Listening Session at Vineyard Church on Saturday, April 26, 2025, inviting the public to share their feedback on the project. Nearly 150 residents, including elementary and middle schoolers, PTAs, and businesses joined the event to share their voice on the project.
The 11th Street Safety Project -- recognized nationally for its focus on safety, neighborhood connectivity, and pedestrian accessibility -- was the product of years of community input, traffic studies, and planning. Ensuring meaningful access for the community to share input is essential before any unilateral changes are considered.
Stay engaged! See the flyer below for more ways to engage on this project. Click the graphic for a full-sized .jpg version.

District C Rain Barrel Sale
Thank you to everyone who purchased a rain barrel during the 2025 District C Rain Barrel Sale! The sale is now closed. If you purchased a rain barrel, send us a picture of your barrel in-action, or share your story of how you're using it this rainy season! Tag us on social media using #DistC
Want to stay notified for next year's sale? Subscribe to our newsletter by clicking here.
Council Member Abbie Kamin is proud to bring back our annual Rain Barrel Sale, which will once again provide up to 150 District C residents an opportunity to purchase a rainwater harvesting barrel at a subsidized cost of $10. We’re also teaming up with Trees for Houston again to provide attendees an opportunity to pick-up a free tree with their barrel!
You must be a District C resident to register. If you purchase a rain barrel, you MUST be available to pick it up between 9AM and 12PM on Saturday, April 19th.
Why purchase a rain barrel?
When it comes to water conservation and flood mitigation, we all have a part to play. Harvesting rainwater will not only help our environment, but can save dollars on your water bill by using the collected rainwater for your lawn and garden.
Each rain barrel holds up to 50 gallons of rainwater and is perfect for a single-family home. Made from recycled material, they come with instructions for easy set-up and use.
Next Steps
Once you sign up to purchase a rain barrel, we will verify your address and check the stock of rain barrels. If selected to purchase, you will receive an email from our team with the link to purchase - you must purchase your rain barrel within 5 business days of receiving the link, or your spot will be forfeited to a resident on the waitlist.
Rain barrel pick-up will be held on Saturday, April 19th from 9AM to 12PM at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (1475 North Loop W). Pick-up instructions will be sent after purchase is complete.
For any questions, please email Anna.Smith@houstontx.gov.

These meetings, held throughout the district, highlighted how to safely maintain and care for our trees, which trees are best to plant for those who've lost them in the storm, and get some unique tips on vegetation in our specific areas.
