Housing and Community Development is excited to continue our 360 Road to Homeownership series, designed to guide you through the key steps toward becoming a first-time homeowner.

We all know that budgeting for a home doesn’t end once you get the keys. There are regular maintenance tasks and unexpected repairs that are crucial to being a homeowner. In this session, we’ve set up a roundtable with a group of experts: a licensed HVAC technician, a Master Electrician, a plumbing specialist, and a licensed realtor, which all to discuss the importance of ongoing maintenance.

These meetings, offered in both in-person and virtual formats, will provide an opportunity to discuss the 2024 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) and review how the City performed against its 2024 Annual Action Plan.

Council Member Tiffany Thomas and the City of Houston’s Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) want residents to know—Help is here!

If your home was damaged during Winter Storm Uri, the Single-Family Home Repair Program can help you recover and rebuild. This program provides real support for Houston homeowners, offering financial assistance and guidance throughout the process. The application has been simplified, for an easier process.

Program Highlights:

  • Up to $100,000 for home repairs
  • Up to $300,000 to rebuild your home
  • Up to $10,000 reimbursement if you’ve already paid for repairs
  • HCD team members can assist by delivering and picking up applications

Upcoming Trainings

The City of Houston Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) is continuing its commitment to empowering Houstonians on their path to homeownership.

Throughout 2026, HCD will host a series of virtual quarterly trainings for both applicants and realtor/lender partners interested in learning more about the Harvey Homebuyer Assistance Program 2.0 (HbAP 2.0) and the traditional Homebuyer Assistance Program (HAP).

These sessions provide valuable insight into eligibility requirements, program benefits, and how HCD partners with lenders and realtors to make homeownership achievable for Houston residents.
